Chinese New Year Message

I’d like to wish all the members of the Chinese community, a Happy Year of the Rooster.

The Rooster symbolises values that are so important to New Zealand – self-reliance, self-esteem, and a can-do attitude.

The New Year is a time also to reflect on family, on giving and on the prospects for the year ahead. And those prospects are so good for all of New Zealand.

The members of the Chinese community play an important role in our economic and cultural life, and our growing understanding of the world that we trade with.

As Prime Minister, I value the New Zealand Chinese community and am committed to ensuring your voice is heard at the highest levels of government.

I wish you all good health, happiness, and good luck in the coming year.
