Amazon has removed Chinese fancy dress costumes from its website after they were advertised with photographs of children making 'racist' gestures.

由于服装广告中有儿童比出“种族主义”的姿势，亚马逊从自己的网站上删除了化装舞会道具服的链接。

The online retailer is suffering a backlash over the images after they were used by third-party sellers. The costumes, described as 'Chinese boy fancy dress costume' and priced between £21.86 and £22.02 (around $40), were being sold on Amazon. Chinese people were furious with the gesture used by the children and the retailer quickly withdrew the products but has declined to explain how they came to be on their site or to apologise.

这家网络零售商因为允许了第三方卖家的图片而饱受诟病。这些在亚马逊出售的服装被描绘为“中国男生的化装舞会道具服”，价格在40纽币左右。中国网友对广告儿童的姿势感到愤怒，亚马逊很快撤销了产品，但拒绝解释为什么会允许这些图片，也没有进行道歉。

Social media users spotted the photographs and posted screengrabs to Amazon's Facebook page and on Twitter. The row comes just weeks after H&M sparked a massive racism row by posing a black child in a top emblazoned with the words 'Coolest monkey in the jungle.'

Lily Ladlow was among those who took to Amazon's Facebook page to voice her anger at the costume pictures. She wrote: "I was very hurt to see the pictures. It clearly insinuated the 'slitty eyes' racial insult that we Chinese often get. I was appalled that Amazon would happily use a photo that was racially abusive to help sell a product."

She continued: "I feel Amazon are sending a message publicly that it is acceptable to be casually racist to Chinese people. I speak for a lot of Chinese people that there seems to be a hierarchy of racial abuse victims, with us Chinese lot at the bottom and the black community at the top."

Amazon declined to comment and simply said: "The products have been removed from sale." The incident comes on the back of Amazon having to remove a series of products that were pro-slavery. In the last couple of days, Amazon removed a number of items emblazoned with the phrase "Slavery Gets S*** Done". The products included laptop cases, mugs, bags, children's T-shirts and bibs.
